Guide

IPTV on Apple TV, without an Apple TV app

Yagi has no Apple TV app yet, but your iPhone or iPad can send the picture to an Apple TV or an AirPlay TV in a tap, and stay the remote.

What you need

  • An Apple TV, or a TV with AirPlay built in.
  • An iPhone or iPad with Yagi and your playlist, on the same Wi-Fi network as the TV.

Step by step

  1. Join the same Wi-Fi. Make sure the iPhone or iPad and the TV are on the same network.
  2. Play a channel in Yagi. Start the channel, movie or episode you want to watch.
  3. Tap AirPlay. In the player's controls, tap the AirPlay button and choose your Apple TV or TV.
  4. Watch on the big screen. The picture moves to the TV, and your iPhone or iPad stays the remote: pause, skip back, change channel or open the guide from it.

If only the sound plays on the TV

Some streams come in formats an Apple TV can't take over AirPlay, so only their sound goes to the TV. Yagi tells you when that happens, with a card that says Turn on Screen Mirroring to see the picture on your TV, and shows you how:

  1. Open Control Center on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap Screen Mirroring and choose your TV.
  3. Yagi then shows the picture on the TV.

Don't see Screen Mirroring? In Control Center, touch and hold an empty space, tap Add a Control, then choose Screen Mirroring.

From a Mac

On a Mac, choose your Apple TV or AirPlay TV under Screen Mirroring in Control Center, then play the channel in Yagi full screen.

Questions

Will Yagi have an Apple TV app?

Not yet. Today Yagi runs on iPhone, iPad and Mac. If you mostly watch on Apple TV, IPTVX, UHF and iPlayTV have Apple TV apps; our comparison shows how they differ.

Can I lock my iPhone while AirPlay plays?

Yes. The TV keeps playing, and the lock screen has the controls.

Does it work with any smart TV?

It works with Apple TV and TVs that have AirPlay built in. Receiver apps on other TVs may only mirror the screen.
